PRESIDENT VISITS WORKS OF THE IQUIQUE "TIERRA DE CAMPEONES" STADIUM

President Sebastián Piñera visited on Tuesday the construction of the Tierra de Campeones stadium, in Iquique, a work with the highest sports standards. “We want this land full of history, wonderful, not only to be the land of the champions, but also to be the land of honest people, healthy people, sports people, happy people,” he said.

He toured the works accompanied by the mayor of the Tarapacá Region, Miguel Ángel Quezada and the Minister of Public Works Juan Andrés Fontaine. With an investment of $ 25 billion, the sports venue has already completed the thick works and shows, in total, an advance of 57%..

Once completed, it will increase its capacity to accommodate 13,171 spectators and will include a natural grass soccer field and an 8-lane athletic track certified by the International Association of Athletics Federations.

“We hope that this stadium will contribute to improve the soul, the spirit, the quality of life, the joy of living of all the Iquiqueños and all the inhabitants of this Region of Tarapacá,” said the ruler, on tour of the Tarapacá Region . The original stadium had to be demolished after being damaged by the 2014 earthquake.
