The protection of the heritage built in Chile is under the protection of two legal parts:
- Law No. 17,288, National Monuments.
- General Law on Urban Planning and Construction (Article 60, second paragraph).
The first of these, the National Monuments Law aims to protect the heritage that has a valuation at the national level, protecting real estate under the category of “National Monument”. For its part, the General Law of Urban Planning and Construction aims to protect the assets that have a local valuation, delegating the power of such identification in the Community Regulatory Plans.
