The Maritime Coastal Edge corresponds to that strip that establishes the border between land and sea, in Chile it travels linearly along approximately 4,200 kilometers, it is characterized by having a fairly narrow continental shelf, compared to the Atlantic continental shelf, in which two zones are clearly differentiated, a northern region, from Arica to Puerto Montt, with about 2,600 kilometers in length, in which the coast is exposed to waves, with great depths, underwater canyons, low presence of islands and bays protected and a southern region with approximately 1,600 kilometers characterized by an intricate morphology with hundreds of islands and fjords.
